Snuggy Mileena by BrianMinor25 Snuggy Mileena by BrianMinor25
So I was looking at MKD's "Sexy Mileena" render where she is in the rain and pretty much standing there naked, and the first thing that popped into my head was "Wow, she must be cold out there with all that rain and nothing to keep her warm!"

That's why I decided to make her some nice, warm clothing so that she can keep herself all nice and snug when it's cold out! :aww:

*On a more serious note: I actually hate how video games and the media these days have women wearing such little clothing just for sex appeal. I don't care if it is an effective marketing strategy, I don't like it and actually have more respect for the people who reserve their body so that guys don't have their eyes all over them 24/7. Maybe it's because I'm just bi and I'm like that, but this image is also somewhat of a message to how the MK games are making the female characters wear less and less clothing with each game. -_-'

THE CHARACTER MILEENA IS OWNED BY NETHERREALM STUDIOS AND THE MORTAL KOMBAT TEAM. I DO NOT OWN HER.

This is great! I love how the clothes actually do look like clothing on the body rather than just painted on. Very well done.
As for the issue of scantily clad characters, I am forced to agree with you even though I thoroughly enjoy the effect of being able to look at sexually attractive women wearing very little. Overall, the progression of female attire from Linda in the original Double Dragon, through Chun Li to modern games like DOA and MK9 has been "more skin", which, as appealling as it is, takes away the opportunity for sexuality to be used in a specific context, such as the beguiling succubus from Darkstalkers, Morrigan Aensland. Ironically, Mileena is one of the very few game characters for whom skimpy attire has contextual logic, since she could reasonably be expected to use her attractive physique to draw attention from her grotesque Tarkatan features. I guess my point is that as a vehicle for fiction and characterization, gratuitous sexual presentation has been overused to the point of being pedestrian and meaningless. The answer to the hypothetical question, "Why is that girl nearly naked?", instead of being specific to the character, environment, or circumstance, has become simply, "She's a video game character."

Excellently said, my friend! o_o

I completely agree with you! Yes, Mileena does make sense, but have you seen all of the females in the new MK game yet? Every... last... one of them... are more revealing than they have ever been before. Sonya is showing a super deep cleavage for the first time, Sindel is wearing stripper clothing, Kitana is looser than ever, etc. And I'm just not liking it.

I think that video games would still do just fine if they dressed up these characters like they used to in the good ol' days when it seemed like the female characters still had respect for themselves. I guess it's too late to turn back now. >_>

I don't think it's too late by any means. I think it's just a stage in a cycle like everything else. Not too many years ago, a woman exposing a knee in public was considered scandalous. Now sex is power, and formidable power at that. In video games where visuals are the most obvious means of conveying ideas, exposing skin is the simplest way of creating sex appeal. However, we're at the stage now where there's not much more to expose, so character designers are going to have to put more effort into it. Consider Chun Li....in her first incarnation in Street Fighter II, she was (by todays' standards) VERY modestly dressed, but she still stands as one of the most sexually alluring video game heroines of all time. I don't think it'll be all that long before we start seeing character designers looking at more than simple flesh colouring on more and more of the sprite to make the females sexy.

That's actually very true. I never thought of that. So much skin is being allowed to be shown these days, and, eventually, it will be overdone and they'll have to resort to other means of fashion.

I'm just practically waiting for all of the MK females to be wearing nothing but pieces of string and some paperclips by MK10. =P

Haha! Not far to go. On the other hand, if they wore some more clothing and instead of being nearly naked throughout the fight, exposed themselves as part of a plea for mercy to head off a fatality in the event of a loss, it would make a lot more sense. Sort of an alternative to the hara kiri. Probably wouldn't work against another female character, and would certainly be considered sexist in the extreme, but at least it would make a lot of sense.
